In The Know.

In an effort to keep you guys and gals in the know on Terrain Park happenings, we brought on one of the park guys to answer any and all questions you may have for this season. Tim will also be posting weekly park updates with pictures so you know exactly what’s going on in the park as things progress.

Here’s a couple pics from a month ago of some of the new tree jibs that we’ve already built located on skiers left of the new park run.

New Name for New Park

Story from the sports desk – The Canyons Resort’s new terrain park has a name! The winner of the “Name The Canyons Terrain Park” contest is Transitions Terrain Park, submitted by Jimmy P.!

With over 115 submissions, the selection process was highly competitive, stressful and even led to one or two arm wrestling matches between the judges. Nonetheless, Transitions rose to the top and is now the name of the sickest new terrain park in Utah!

Just to recap, here’s what the Transitions Terrain Park will offer this coming season:

1. 50+ features anticipated
2. 9+ jumps anticipated (more than double from last year)
3. A natural zone located in The Aspens
4. Inclusion of an Easy Way trail
5. More jumps in one run than any other park in Utah
6. Top-to-Bottom snowmaking capability
7. Great exposure – watch your friends shred the park from the lift
8. Features for all ages and abilities

Now that you know what to call it, all that’s left to do is pray for snow! Fifty-one days and counting until opening day!

Bigger, Badder Park for Upcoming Season

The Canyons is at it again! This time creating the longest Top-to-Bottom terrain park in Utah!
Located on Snow Dancer off of the Saddleback Express lift, the new park will be 1.1 miles long, making it the longest park in resort history. Describing the new location, Terrain Park Manager Steve Duke said, “It’s like God built this run for a park.”

Concerned about not having two parks? Don’t be! The new park’s acreage doubles the acreage from both of last year’s parks.

Size does matter at The Canyons. And so do features. Here’s a taste of what you can expect from the new park:

1. 50+ features anticipated
2. 9+ jumps anticipated (more than double from last year)
3. A natural zone located in The Aspens
4. Inclusion of an Easy Way trail
5. More jumps in one run than any other park in Utah
6. Top-to-Bottom snowmaking capability
7. Great exposure – watch your friends shred the park from the lift
8. Features for all ages and abilities

For those Painted Horse fans out there, it will no longer be a terrain park. Instead, it will be a Family Fun Zone. Stay tuned for more details on what to expect in this area.

If you’re not getting excited then you don’t have a pulse! But in case you need more of a reason to get stoked, how do you feel about putting your own stamp on the park? That’s right; The Canyons is asking YOU to name the new park. Submit your name ideas to The Canyons Facebook or Twitter pages by Sunday, October 3. Get creative and make it hard on the judges!

What are you waiting for?! Start brainstorming! And more importantly start getting stoked for en epic winter of riding one of the best parks in the country!

Ultimate Winter Gig

Go ahead, pinch yourself. You’re not dreaming! The Ultimate Mountain Gig is not a figment of your imagination. It’s for real!

With the Ultimate Mountain Gig, The Canyons Resort is providing skiers and boarders alike with the ultimate stoke for the upcoming season. How could you not get excited about winter when all this could be yours?

1. A season pass to The Canyons Resort
2. Plush digs for the season at the Waldorf Astoria
3. $40,000 for four months of “hard” work
4. Brand new gear, from head-to-toe
5. Canyons Club access
6. Airfare to and from The Canyons Resort
7. Spa treatments
8. Ski school and avalanche training clinics
9. First Tracks and Heli-Skiing access
10. VIP Credentials for all Canyons events
11. Use of camera, video camera and laptop

Sounds fantastic, huh? But you’re probably wondering what the catch is. That’s the great part about this deal – there is no catch! Here’s what’s expected of you if you win.

1. Blog about your activities at least four times per week with photos and video
2. Attend Canyons events
3. Participate in monthly Canyons activities
4. Shadow shifts with various departments – Ski Patrol, Food and Beverage, Lift Operations, etc.

First, wipe that drool from your chin. That’s not going to help you win. Second, create a 2-minute video addressing the question, “How do you mountain?” Third, don’t forget to include a little self promotion on why you deserve the Ultimate Mountain Gig. And finally, go to HowDoYouMountain.com and apply.

It’s that easy. It’s that simple. Besides, thinking “What if?” is no way to spend a winter.

Canyons On Mountain Improvements: Phase 1

You guys may have heard the buzz by now, so I wanted to give you the scoop, we are making some massive improvements at the resort.  There are 5 major projects going on: the gondola is being realigned, a new lift with heated seats and an orange weather protecting bubble, 300 more acres of terrain on Iron Mountain, a new snowmaking reservoir, and a ski beach.

Yes, this all sounds very plush and exciting but what does it mean to you?

1. Gondola Re-Alignment equals less walking from the Cabriolet to the new plush seats of the re-painted gondola cars.

2. High Speed Quad with heated seats and an orange weather protecting bubble.  We have taken the Golden Eagle lift down and are replacing it with this, however the lift line, is very different.  The bottom terminal of this new quad goes where the old gondola base was, there will be a mid-way station at the top of Lookout Peak, and the lift will continue to an unloading spot where the DJ Hut was. Heated seats and orange bubble makes it the first of its kind in the U.S. PLUS, on powder days, your tush is warm, and you aren’t getting wet and cold (the bubble comes down when no one is in the chair, keeping the seat dry).  This is also a 9,000 foot long lift, that will increase our out of base capacity by 47%, so you will spend waaay less time waiting in a gondola line on heavy snow days.

3. 300 more acres on Iron Mountain takes us to 4,000 acres of skiing and riding terrain. HELLO, earth to you, that makes us 4th largest in the U.S. meaning your secret stashes are even more hidden because people will spread out faster.  Access via the Timberline lift will take you to the south side of the resort in minutes.

4. The new snowmaking reservoir will hold 20 million gallons of water, yes that means the jumps for the park will be up sooner and you will be over hucking yourself earlier in the season.

5. The new ski beach will give you the opportunity to pick up chicks (or dudes) while lounging next to an outdoor firepit or enjoying one of our concerts.  This will be absolutely THE apres location. No Joke.

That being said, what do guys think? B-T-Dubs, more announcements are coming in the next couple of weeks, and that, my friends is the jam.  Press release if you’d like more details: HERE
