The Canyons is at it again! This time creating the longest Top-to-Bottom terrain park in Utah!
Located on Snow Dancer off of the Saddleback Express lift, the new park will be 1.1 miles long, making it the longest park in resort history. Describing the new location, Terrain Park Manager Steve Duke said, “It’s like God built this run for a park.”
Concerned about not having two parks? Don’t be! The new park’s acreage doubles the acreage from both of last year’s parks.
Size does matter at The Canyons. And so do features. Here’s a taste of what you can expect from the new park:
1. 50+ features anticipated
2. 9+ jumps anticipated (more than double from last year)
3. A natural zone located in The Aspens
4. Inclusion of an Easy Way trail
5. More jumps in one run than any other park in Utah
6. Top-to-Bottom snowmaking capability
7. Great exposure – watch your friends shred the park from the lift
8. Features for all ages and abilities
For those Painted Horse fans out there, it will no longer be a terrain park. Instead, it will be a Family Fun Zone. Stay tuned for more details on what to expect in this area.
If you’re not getting excited then you don’t have a pulse! But in case you need more of a reason to get stoked, how do you feel about putting your own stamp on the park? That’s right; The Canyons is asking YOU to name the new park. Submit your name ideas to The Canyons Facebook or Twitter pages by Sunday, October 3. Get creative and make it hard on the judges!
What are you waiting for?! Start brainstorming! And more importantly start getting stoked for en epic winter of riding one of the best parks in the country!

Yea sooo, Dec 10th as an opening date?!! So are you guys gonna give us free lift tickets for pc until Dec 10th? or how are you gonna fix this mistake? If you dont do anything to fix this huge mistake it looks like a lot more people will be riding pc next year.
Hey Drake, not sure if you saw but almost every resort is offering discount tickets when presenting your season pass, i think about 40 bucks to most places? In addition for pass holders the mountain has offered to free comp passes redeemable at any ticket window. I know you’re dying to ride and so are we, sorry for the delay but i definitely think once you get up on the hill you’re gonna be stoked on the new set ups!
canyons. im so excited for this year i think when people actually going to the park theyll like it. and oh tow rope would be way sick at the jib section. its probably cheap too. so try it out i hate climbing back up ha
Hey Rob, first off glad you’re stoked on the idea of a new park, we’ve already been on the hill peeping out the new areas and its going to be AWESOME. As far as a tow rope goes we’ve talked about the idea quite a bit but with all the huge renovations and additions this season it just wasn’t going to happen. Keep the ideas coming though we love hearing from the guys who shred our park!
Do you people have a facebook fan page? I looked for one on twitter but could not discover one, I would really like to become a fan!
YUP! You can link to it from the ride canyons home page or just search for it under “The Canyons Terrain Parks!” tell your friends we’re going to be doing tons of updates and giveaways over the next few weeks.
I completely agree with everyone who said that using Saddleback for the main lift again is NOT a good idea. There is always someone who doesn’t know how to get on the lift and the lift has to stop, and all the regular riders taking up room in the lift line. I am super stoked that the park will be on the other side of Saddleback so we don’t have have to worry about going through the gauntlet of people walking around. Huge props there, but the park needs its own lift or a tow rope. I do have faith that the Canyons Park Crew knows what they’re doing and will make an epic park for us this year. I do agree though that there should be a beginner park for the little shredders to get some experience. Some day I hope that the Canyons can create a “Mountain Lab” type park with more than one run. Thanks Canyons! I’m excited to ride the Tranny Park!
Jeff stoked on the feedback, we’re excited for the new park as well. The lift line is definitely something we will keep an eye on as the season progresses, especially on those busy weekends. We’ve already thought about trying to do a beginner park somewhere else but until the season gets rolling we can’t get a definite answer. Just know that we shred park everyday and we want you guys to be stoked so we’ll definitely do our best to keep an eye on things. Damn i kind of sounded like a corporate suit for a second there. Be sure to say whats up when you see the park crew, we love you guys!
It better have jumps over 60 ft. Or my life will be ruined
There were more than 9 jumps last year
Truth however, imagine hitting all the jumps in painted horse and then in the same run getting all the jumps in respect. OMG! ya i wanna get me some of that action…
yea, true. If the canyons is really gonna have “more than double the jumps from last year” they are gonna need 18+…
We did a drive through of the new park run a few weeks ago and kind of mapped out what areas will have jumps and what areas will have rails. The new park run is a divine gift from whatever supernatural being you believe in. Get stoked!
This idea of the two parks in one makes me want to get a pass to Brighton, at least its a little separated there. You are going to have beginners clashing with more advanced. This is a very bad idea, people are going to get hurt and the more advanced riders are going to get aggravated at the beginners. Again BAD IDEA!
I’ve got mixed feelings about this. Agreed I would like a top to bottom park experience, however, I did like the seclusion of begginers and advanced. I hated learning in the way of better boarders and I also hate landing on begginers where they shouldn’t be. The two parks addressed and helped this problem. It also kept it from being a competition like with Park City’s park and gave the Canyon’s a more chilled experience. I’m hopeful this year the run layout and attitude of other boarders will alleviate this.
We’re confident that when you see the set up you’re gonna be stoked. When we design a park we design it with everyone in mind. Think of it like this, you have a super wide super long run. On one side of the run you have all the beginner features from painted horse as well as all of the easier features from respect. On the other side you have a line of intermediate to advance features the entire way down. Now where the “big” jumps are you are going to have a split in the run offering beginners an additional easy jump line. This run on the trail map is called “easy way”. Have faith, this is the most excited anyone on the park crew has been since we all started here 5 seasons ago, and look how far we’ve come!
the worst thing about the old park was that you were only riding park for half of your run. Ive always wanted a run where everything is park straight from top to bottom. I think this is a good idea but there is the factor of the new beginners coming into the park and making it a hassle for more advanced riders. i agree that there should be a section roped off for beginners because then there could be a flat box section they could ride and have the big: jumps, rails, and more advanced boxes for the more experienced riders. A tow rope is also a great idea to keep people happy and less people on the jumps. as for all you people who will not be joining the canyons this year, go ahead and leave, that makes less cluster and more room for the rest of us “who are staying at the canyons” at the bottom of saddleback.
Im pretty sure everyone is on the same page, everyones comment is the exact same, hope the canyons rethink their idea of one big park…
IT DOESNT GET BETTER THAN THIS!
I’m with everybody else, one monster park would be awesome, but not if we are going to have to share with newbies and wait half the day to get up there. Red pine is packed enough as it is and even bigger lines will really suck. I say we leave it the way it is, but if it does happen they throw in some tow ropes. Anyways you park guys are awesome and I hope you read this, and make the best of what happens.
Thanks for the support. This is the most stoked the guys on the crew have ever been. If issues arise be sure that we’ll do our best to correct them. Saddleback is a high speed quad and can service roughly 2400 people an hour. On the busiest day of last year both parks combined were about 900 people an hour. We’re hoping with the addition of the new bubble lift its going to alleviate a lot of traffic around red pine giving easier access to both the northern areas of the hill and also being able to ride past red pine all the way down to tombstone without having to push.
this is the worst idea ever. its cool that they are making a big ass park but they should put the beginner park where upper respect used to be… the line on saddle back is already beastly enough.
We definitely understand where you’re coming from and it’s something we’ve talked about. Unfortunately until we try it out and see, we can’t get a definite answer from upper management. I guess i just want you to be aware that we’ve already consider this and will do our best to address it if the issue arises.
I think making Snow Dancer one long park is an awesome idea, but only if you leave Painted Horse alone as a beginner park. OR you can make upper respect a beginner park. Slope angle is a little steep but you could make it work. If the Canyons sticks with the one park idea in Snow Dancer then they’ll need to rope/fence off the beginner area and make it SUPER obvious that this is the beginner area and this is the advanced area. Maybe with gates or entrances labeled “beginner” and “advanced”. Those observations aside I think it’s a great idea.
yup high life! i think everyone shoule shut the front door and stop whinging! just cut the crap people off. and figure this because of the run that its built on the park will be up sooner because they wont have to level out the run before putting features on it. and i figure they will get something smaller at some point to. yes the gapers are a concern but its all for progress! so suck up whiners
The run that is gonna be up wont be up until after Dec. 10th…Even the smallest, worst resorts open by thanksgiving weekend. Canyons lost me and my friends next year…
Billy i feel your pain, honestly man the guys on the crew are dying to ride too. Hopefully you’ll still get some good days in this year and at least keep us posted on what you think of the new park, we (the guys on the park crew) love hearing feedback on the park. Sorry things got pushed back and we hope to see you next week.
This is the worst idea Ive ever heard. If the canyons want to step it up they should make three separate parks instead of one big, crouded mess.
I bet we don’t see a jump over 30 ft all year hahaha. Park segregation has as much to do with the beginners not feeling intimidated as it does the more advanced riders not having to worry about beginners or spectators inadvertently putting themselves into dangerous situations, or getting in the way. The new plan makes me apprehensive for sure… but I know the terrain crew is more than capable of making the best of any situation, and I sincerely hope that the park is a screaming success. I look forward to seeing how this plays out.
all the coments from everyone is a complaint so hopefully someone in park management or coperate canyons is actualy reading why we dont think its a good idea and will take the constructive ideas we are giving to you guys. I feel like the canyons is building and trying to be the biggest and the best but i feel like some of the new changes is just trying to bring in money…. i know its a business and i get that… i just feel like its going to lose its laid back chill feeling that Park City has lost in the past years and reason i began to come to the canyons in the first place
Bad idea.. very very bad….. Theres a reason why begginers belong in the begginer park,, dont go mixin em with kids going big. I know when i leave the lip of a jump i rather not se kids sitting on the knolll or pizza sliceing across the landings. Saddle Back is also a horrible lift choice,, sun peak quad was tit, never ever big lines and it accessed harder terrian wich kept Joey’s out of it.
I imagine the resort thinks the recreational skier will be shifting away from Saddleback to Sun Peak with the new heated seat bubble lift dumping people off on Sun Peak. That should open up some space on Saddleback.
However, I don’t know where this leaves the beginner boarder who has just conquered the bunny slope. When my ex was learning at Canyons, she couldn’t venture to Sun Peak or Tombstone. Once she was ready go get past High Meadow, she had to ride Saddleback all day. Where is this rider going to ride? It will be one run off Saddleback all day sharing the lift with advanced park riders unless they are making Sun Peak more beginner friendly. But I don’t see how that can be done. Maybe with the new snowmaking they expect the beginner rider to ride more from the base. That would be sick. But I think docs is still too challenging for beginners.
this is no different than how any other resort does it? cant believe you guys are stressing the line so hard, i’d gladly wait an extra minute to ride a park 4 times the size of last years respect. You guys are crazy, have you ever riden brighton or keystone or even park city s pick n shovel by far their busiest park is serviced by one tiny double chair. I say if you’re worried about lines then go ride somewhere else bc personally i’ll spend the extra two mins in the lift line. THIS IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. a park more than double the acreage of both of last years combined, top to bottom permanent snow making, when is there ever a line anywhere at the canyons besides a holiday and a saturday???
sounds like ill be landing on someone this season landing on a gapper counts for a 100 points right
I want to know who made this decision–the park crew, or a bunch of dudes in suits trying to get publicity for having the longest park ever? Resorts have split their parks up for a reason. PS let’s get some more rails, get KAB on that man!
lets see a tow rope on the jib section of this park!!!! that way everyones happy.
I’m glad so many people out there agree with me… For crash issues tho it can be set up so you have an easy part and a hard part, tow ropes will work as well, maybe a few in different locations? as for a different placement for the park i really don’t know…
i have been coming to the canyons for six years and i have always loved the parks, however this year i will break my streak of season pass ownership due to this idea.
in concept this idea would work however only on a differnt lift but i can tell you i spent far to much time in line at saddleback last year this season will be far worse i think i would rather go somewhere with a crapy park with no lift lines aka powder mountain .!
I gotta agree with the above statements. Cramming all people of all abilities in the same run is a bad idea. There needs to be clearly defined parks for beginner, intermediate and advanced. I have been trying to decide where to ride this year and this may make up my decision to ride at Park City. I would rather ride Canyons but I am not going to hurt myself trying to go around and avoid beginners that have no knowlegde of riding park.
what if the canyons does this idea but puts it somewhere else on the mountain…… there are tons o great spots!! or make another park to spread out the masses of people!!! saddle back is going to be paaaaaacccckkkeeeeddd!!!!
This is an awful idea! The lines are going to be huge and it will be extremely crowded! I have always went to park city. But lately it has disappointed me with the huge lines and cocky people everywhere. i wanted to go to canyons cause everyone said it was chill and cool. but this seriously makes me re-consider my decision.
I’m not really sure that this is going to work. There is going to be too many people in one location. I like the idea of a bigger park, but off saddleback? Red pine is so crowded as it is. I don’t know who’s idea this was but I’m not sure they considered the crazy f***ing lines that already exist and then to throw eveyone who usually hangs out in upper and lower into the mix and not to mention the new family fun zone. I think we’re screwed. Get there early and then bail!
So the longest terrain park in Utah huh? well in that case it should be one name and one name only…how about PARKZILLA! and all you peeps worried about safety issues and lines and stuff relax its gonna be chill this is nothing but a step in the right direction. PARKZILLA!!
Slick Ride
Kick Off
Call the park shredzilla!
Im a little scared that 1 park is going to kill the vibe of canyons… in the past going to canyons was like getting away from the crowds of park city and out of the “scene” It gave you time to focus and learn.. But you have always killed it Canyons park crew.. always!! So im excited to see what goes down.. and if it doesn’t work oh well! theres always POW somewhere at canyons..
I do not think this is going to work….The lift lines on saddleback are going to start at the top of the gondola on a mellow day. I understand that snowdancer is a better run for the park but if you cram a bunch of people who know what they are doing and ALOT of people who have know idea how to ride the park it could be disasterous, Im talking crashes, fights, you name it, its going to cause alot of drama. The reason respect was so cool was that it was like the hidden gem of the mountain, and if one park wasn’t doing it for you, then you could venture to the other park. I think that having everyone who rides the park combined with everyone who takes ski leasons along with almost everyone that gets on the gondola will make riding saddleback unbearable, 45min in line for a 5 min run…..I think Canyons should rethink this idea extensively.
***Trying to contact steve duke in relation to the development of the new park. We are a collective of artists who are interested in the possibility of developing and designing the identity of the new park. Thanks for the consideration.
cheers ∞

I am voting w/ robbie and saying Bonzai! or second choice, High Life. Those both are sick.
Theres going to be lines galore!! Lines =
Tow Rope and saddle back=
WE WANT UPPER AND LOWER RESPECT! PLEASE
Hannah, Thats way cool that its going to be so huge!!!! BUT the advanced riders and beginners on the same run.. not so cool!! plus that lift is already crowded enough we dont need double the people on that one lift!!!! most of the people go to upper and lower respect for two reasons to excape the beginners and loose the crowds but this distroys both!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep at least upper respect!!! BOTH upper and lower respect would be appreciated!!
That’s going to suck to have only one park. A busy Saturday with everyone in one park being serviced by one lift will be terrible. This is clearly a corporate move to try to have freestyle snowboarding and skiing sectioned off into one area to please the larger recreational skier demographic.
and snowdancer? isn’t saddle back crowded enough and the whole red pine base? once again bad idea. You want people spread out not everyone at one lift… Very bad idea
Why are you offering one big park instead of two parks a easy park and an intermediate park? By not offering an easy park you are forcing people that are lacking skill to ride and learn how to ride park at one park where you are going to have people of all levels riding? this sounds like one of the worst ideas The Canyons has ever had. You are going to see alot more crashes people riding in others way and above all of that you its going to be a cluster of people. You guys should strongly rethink this idea.
are there any future plans for night skiing?
french toast!
Pingback: Tweets that mention Bigger, Badder Park for Upcoming Season | RideCanyons.com – Park City, Utah -- Topsy.com
This Guy, yes we will only have one park. But, as it said in the article the one park is bigger and will offer more features than the two parks from last year combined.
and also the two lift lines from last year combined!!!
true that- call your drop in!… with 75 other people
2 parks woth of people plus 2 lifts woth of people= super freakin lame. seperate the parks. newbies need to be seperated from the better riders
True that! Beginner and experienced riders all on one run = bad idea. Saddleback’s lines are already a joke as it is. This is just another of the many reasons im saying goodbye to the Canyons and going back to PC this year.
1. the junction
2. banzai
3. the territory
4. high life
so are you taking out upper and lower respect to create this park??? is there only going to be one park total!!!?
